LONGware T-Pin Piton
I can thank Marty Karabin for providing Vertical Archaeology with these two LONGware T-stock pitons. The original owners were Dana Hollister and Bill Sewrey.
It’s amazing that these two items are in good shape because they seem to be simple aluminum T-stock drilled and cut to length. They are very soft and would likely deform under any load or a few hammer blows. I’ve seen photos of them placed as chocks, utilizing the slight angle cut on the end, to wedge in and hopefully stay put. I think they would have been a “body weight only“ placement. Forrest Titons and Chimney Chocks would eventually revisit this idea and actually work well due to being made of much stronger material.
wondering if you plan to post any pics of the gear I sent last year?
John,
I have it all cataloged and photographed. I have had a technical issue with this site for the last year. I’ve lost the ability to update it for some reason.
I apologize for the unintended delay. I have the host working on it but no resolution has been reached so far.
I love the monkey paws! And I am still wondering about the use of the prototype gadget. I’ll be in touch.
Cool. I just forgot what I sent, I might have 3 haulbags full of old gear from storage and will be looking for collections to share! Nice pages, appreciate the posted history.
Members of the Wasatch Mountain Club have climbing items that you may be interested in adding to your collection. We also have canyoneering items, but don’t know if you accept those. Thanks for your work. You can see us at https://www.wasatchmountainclub.org
Wow! I looked at the club website and it’s great to see motivated members and lots of fuss n trips! Thanks for reaching out to us here at Vertical Archaeology. I would love to discuss any gear or history you might have. You can reach me at this email and we can set up a phone call or correspondence of your choice. Thanks!
