Salewa Griff Fifi Hook
Sometimes known as a handled fifi hook or a jug handle hook, this Salewa design was primarily used when the occasional aid move was required on mostly free ascents. The handle and large open hook made transitioning from aid to free easy and allowed for quick retrieval once the aid point was passed. Griff Fifis were especially useful on broken alpine terrain.
The catalog detail shown is from the 1988 Bergsport catalog (in German).
A note about the name: “Griff” is German for Handle, “Fifi” or “Fiffi” (both spellings are acceptable) is the climber name for the hook type and the origin of the name is better explained here, and “Haken” means hook.
