August Schuster of Munich (ASMU) started his company in 1914. ASMU manufactured high quality outdoor equipment and became especially notable for their rock and mountaineering products. Most of their axes, carabiners, pitons, and crampons were designed and manufactured to strict internally developed specifications and the ASMU brand became a dependable mark of quality.
This catalog dates from 1937. It has many unique features such as the first page advertising “worldwide shipping”… and delivery by Zeppelin! Also, page 2 states that all prices are in Reichmarks. One Reichmark equaled 1/2790 of a kilogram of fine gold.
ASMU or Sporthaus Schuster still exists today with a large retail operation in Munich.
